Assassin's Creed III:
"Experiences in" is a series of short impressionistic reviews designed to deliver quick notes and comments about different games with the budget or frugal gamer in mind. Assassin’s Creed III is such a robust game, but I'll keep it short so that you can quickly decide to buy it or skip it.
Assassin’s Creed III is simply known as AC3. The game continues to offer new and unexpected turns in the Assassin's Creed game series. This time, our character finds himself visiting the British Colonies (soon to be the United States of America).
Nothing seems new because the gameplay style and game mechanics fit into the AC series. In fact, AC3 starts out like previous Assassin's Creed games with sword-play, pickpocketing, climbing and diving from high places. The exception is that the new environment focuses on Colonial America... specifically the initial spark of the revolutionary war.
Your character is a Native American assassin who fights to protect his land and his people, but also clears a trail for a young nation’s path to revolution.
Price: As of this writing, AC3 is $20 on STEAM... the deluxe edition. In general, deluxe editions of most games include some, if not all, DLC (expansions, add-ons). So, make sure you can get it cheap... because most PC gamers are on a budget and that is the theme of my impressionistic reviews, right?
Storyline: Despite the game's technical relation to other Assassin's Creed games, AC4: Black Flag's storyline is entertaining and intriguing with a solidly thought out plot based on American history!
Game Mechanics: If you've played modern first-person shooters (FPS) and third-person shooters (3PS) you'll find AC3 handles fairly well. There is the occasional annoyance of NPC's (non-participating AI characters) getting in your way and the fact that your character may jump-climb unintentional places like trees, rocks and buildings. But, for the most part, the controls have a nominal learning curve and the keyboard keys can be modified or remapped.
Weapons and Equipment: True to the weaponry of the time period and environment, AC3 offers an array of guns, bows, tomahawks, knives and swords for you to upgrade and use. Weapons, ammo and in-game currency get picked up off dead enemies and bought via trade stations and shops or found in secret stashes throughout the game.
Graphics: The 2012 graphics look really nice... not cutting edge, but good-looking by today's standards.
Game Modes: Most games, that I look at, contain a single player mode and a cooperative mode. AC3 has asSingleplayer (SP) mode and multiplayer mode (MP)... sorry, no cooperative mode (COOP).
Requirements: Even the recommended requirements are kind of low in my opinion.

Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9400 or 3.00 GHz AMD Phenom™ II X4 940
Memory: 4 GB
Graphics: 1024 MB DirectX® 10—compliant with Shader Model 5.0 or higher (see supported list)*
DirectX®: 10
Hard Drive: 17 GB
Sound: DirectX 10–compliant (5.1 surround sound recommended)
Multiplayer: 256 kbps or faster broadband connection
Peripherals: Windows-compatible keyboard, mouse, optional controller (Xbox 360 Controller for Windows recommended)
*Supported Video Cards at Time of Release:
AMD Radeon™ HD 4850 / 5000 / 6000 / 7000 series
NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800 GT / 9 / 200 / 400 / 500 / 600 series
Laptop versions of these cards may work, but are not supported. These chipsets are the only ones that will run this game. For the most up-to-date minimum requirement listings, please visit the FAQ on our support website.
Please note that this game requires a UBISOFT/UPLAY account even though you are buying the game via STEAM. You could buy directly through Ubisoft and just use their game platform, UPLAY, but I recommend purchasing through STEAM.
